Boys 8th Basketball vs. TBA

Orioles Win: 44 - 8
The 8th grade Boys BasketballOrioles opened the Big 8 Conference Tournament with an impressive 44-8 win over Concord. A fast start resulted in 24 1st quarter points while an active defense held the YellowJackets scoreless. The game was played with a “running clock” for the entire 2nd half and the Orioles shuttled 18 different players into the game 10 of which found their names on the scorecard. The offense was led by point guard Christian Craven who had 7 assists and 7 points with some nifty passing. Alex Dunn in limited minutes had 12 points. Carsen Haylett played another strong game with 7 points and was very active on the defensive end. Noah Rufenacht scored 6 points while Deisel Sheely added 4 points. Garrett Haylett had a basket and free throw (3 points) and Jax Sergent, Nick Thomas and Darrin Farmer scored baskets and Rylan “Sarge” Dickey added a free throw.  The Orioles will play in the semi final round on Wednesday against Jonesville who advanced with a win over Bronson.

Orioles Win: 70 - 44
The 8th grade Orioles Basketball team travelled to Union City on Wednesday and came away with a resounding 70-44 victory. The win was the 2nd of the week over Big 8 and Branch County rivals- Bronson and UnionCity.   Alex Dunn had a game he’ ll not soon forget as he scored 31 points on 15 baskets,one of which was a TV slam dunk.  He stole the ball at mid court and in traffic completed the one hand slam.   The Orioles and Dunn had great support from point guards Carsen Haylett (14 points) and Christian Craven (9 points). The duo combined on 10 assists. Noah Rufenacht continued his all around good play with 6points while defending UC’s top scorer. Jax Sergent made the most of his time on the court with 4 points and Garrett Haylett, Isaiah Staggs, and Connor Stetler also scored for the Orioles.  With the win the Orioles move to 6-2 on the season and will get ready to play Concord in the opening round of the Big Eight Conference Tournament next Monday at Concord.

Orioles Win: 38 - 34
Late Free throws help Quincy Hold off Bronson in 8th grade Boys Basketball.  Christian Craven and Noah Rufenacht both made a pair of free throws late  in the 4th quarter to help the Orioles hold of Bronson at Bronson 38-34. Rufenacht’s free throws came after a hustle steal of the ball off a rebound with just 4 seconds to go and sealed the deal for the Orioles.  The Orioles struggled at times with the Bronson defense and the Vikings closed the gap to2 points with under 30 seconds to play before Rufenanct’s heroics.  Christian Craven led the Orioles with a gutty 14 point performance. Alex Dunn played monster defense and scored 12 points. Rufenanct finished with 4 points, Carsen Haylett had 3 points, Andrew Dunn scored 2 points and Garrett Haylett and Colbee Stevens added key free throws in the Orioles win.   The Orioles open the week with a win and move its record to 5-2. They will play again on Wednesday at Union City

Orioles Win: 46 - 15
The 8th Boys Basketball team went on the road to Concord Thursday and cruised to a 46-15 win. The Orioles jumped out to an early 19-6 and led 40-11 at half time.  The second half was played with a “running clock” and the Orioles were able to get many players some valuable playing experience.  Alex Dunn had a big night with a season high 20 points and an all around tough  defensive effort.  Carson Haylett drove hard to the basket all night and recorded 9 points including 5 free throws.  The improving Noah Rufenacht added 8 points. Isiah Staggs (3points), Deisel Sheely (2points), Rylan Dickey (2 points) and Carter Trascos ( 2 points on a nifty buzzer beater) also scored for the Orioles.  With the win the O’s snap a two game losing streak and move to 4-2 on the season.

Orioles Lose: 36 - 56
Visiting Jonesville raced out to a 22-10 1st quarter led and beat the Orioles 56- 36 in 8th grade basketball action on Wednesday night at Quincy.  Jonesville’s Caleb Blonde had a game high 23 points 13 of which came in the 1st quarter.  The Orioles were led by Alex Dunn’s 13 points on 5 baskets and 3 free throws. He also added an impressive 13 rebounds for a double double. Rylan Dickey who continues to get better on both ends of the floor scored 6 points. Deisel Sheely and Isiah Skaggs added 4 points each. Carson Haylett, Noah Rufenacht, Garrett Haylett, Andrew Dunn also scored for the Orioles who return to the court on Thursday at Concord.

Orioles Lose: 41 - 62
Quincy's 8th grade Boys Basketball suffered its 1st loss of the season with a 62-41 loss at home to Springport.  The Spartans and Orioles were tied at 25 at the end of the 1st half.  Springport then wore down he O's with a big 2nd half to get the win.   Alex Dunn led the Orioles with 19 points and  a strong all around effort.  Noah Rufenacht also reached double figures with 10 and was very active on both ends of the floor.  Christian Craven added 8 points and Garrett Haylett and Rylan Dickey also scored for the Orioles who are now off until after the Thanksgiving break. 
Boys 8th Basketball vs. Homer High School

Orioles Win: 31 - 28
8th grade Boys Basketball holds off Homer for a 31-28 win on Monday at Quincy.   The Orioles raced out to a fast start with a 14-3 1st quarter lead  and led 18-10 at half time. The Trojans stayed in the game with 4 second half 3 pointers and had a shot at the end to tie the game. The Orioles uncharacteristically committed several turnovers in the 4th quarter and were unable to put the Trojans away   In the end,  2 Diesel Sheely free throws and a Noah Rufenacht basket keep the Orioles in front to secure the win.   Quincy who moves to 3-0 on the season, had 7 players score and wiere led by Alex Dunn with 10 points Christian Craven had 6, including a 3 point basket, Sheely, played his normal tough defense and also added key free throws down the stretch had 5 points .  Isiah Skaggs added 4 points while Rufenacht, Jax Sergent, and Rylan Dickey scored baskets for the Orioles

Orioles Win: 32 - 16
Quincy's 8th grade boys basketball team returned to action on Wednesday night at Reading defeating the Rangers 32-16. The Orioles were again led by a stout defensive effort.  Dielsel Shelly and Noah Rufenacht held the Ranger's top player to just 4 points. Alex Dunn  and Carsen Haylett paced the offense. Dunn scored 12 points and Haylett played super tough from the point guard position had 11. Rylan Dickey who keeps improving his skill everyday had good minutes off the bench and scored his 1st ms basket.  Sheely and Rufenacht added baskets. Christian Craven, returning from injury, scored a basket and Issiah Skaggs added a free throw.  With the win the O's move to 2-0 on the young season and will get back to practice preparing for Homer

Orioles Win: 33 - 18
The 8th grade Boys Basketball team opened its 2022 season with a 33-18 win at home over Reading.  The Orioles played good defense all night in limiting the Rangers who had just two players score. Deisel Sheely, Noah Rufenacht, and Andrew Dunn stood out on the defensive end.  Alex Dunn led the team in scoring with 16 points while team mate Carsen Haylett added 13. Both players were aggressive taking the ball to the basket. Both players also lead the way rebounding with 6 each.  Garrett Haylett and Rufenacht also scored for the Orioles.
