Boys Varsity Baseball vs. Lumen Christi Catholic High School

Orioles Lose: 1 - 5

The Quincy Baseballers traveled to Jackson Lumen Christi on Saturday the compete in what has become an annual end of the regular season doubleheader.  For the second time in two weeks( the Orioles met the Titans in the finals of the Glick invitational)  the Orioles and state ranked Titans were tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning where the Titans flexed their muscle and went on to score 4 runs and won game 1 by a score of 5-1.  

Brennen Allman was sharp on the mound in his final tune up before a pre district game on Tuesday.  The Junior righty blanked the Titans over 3 innings. Jimmy Maynard pitched well in relief for 2.2 innings and Landon Beardon finished the game on the mound. 

The Quincy bats were limited to just 3 hits. Two from lead off hitter Maynard and one from Ryan Kempter who scored the Orioles lone run. 

In game two the Titans pounded out 13 hits enroute to a 5 inning 14-0 win. Kempter, Alex Barry, Parker Fraley and Mickey Connin all pitched for the Orioles who managed just 2 hits singles by Kempter and Freshman Christian Craven. 

With the regular season in the books the 15-13 Orioles turn their sights to a pre district match up with rival Bronson on Tuesday at home. Game time slated for 5:00 pm.

Orioles Lose: 6 - 7

 and Union City met on the diamond Thursday evening to complete a rescheduled Big 8 Conference game and then played an additional non league game.  In the game that counted in the league standings, the Chargers rallied from a 6-0 Orioles lead by scoring one run in the 6th inning and five in the bottom of the 7th to force extra innings. In the bottom of the 8th the Chargers earned the walk off win 7-6 to move past the Orioles in the final Big 8 standings. The Chargers finished league play at 7-5 and the Orioles 6-6. 

Mason Graves took a shut out into the 6 inning to lead the Orioles from the mound. The Chargers  used big hits and capitalized on 6 Oriole errors to complete the comeback. Graves struck out 5 Chargers. Quincy was led at the plate by Ryan Kempter and Ethan Copas who had 2 hits each.  Alex Barry and Grant Holroyd added singles. Barry led the 2 RBIs

In game 2 which was called by darkness after 6 innings. The Orioles eeked out a 8-7 win. The Orioles pounded out 11 hits and got out to an 8-2 lead. The Chargers again closed the gap to 8-7.  Copas started on the mound for the Orioles and was followed  by Holroyd who was credited with the win. Barry pitched 1.2 innings and Jimmy Maynard come on to earn the save. Graves sparked the offense with 3 hits while Barry and Landon Beardon added two each. Holroyd, Kempter, Maynard and Christian Craven also had base hits for the Orioles. 

The Chargers won the season series 2 to 1. All three games were decided by one run

The Orioles with their 15-11 record head to Jackson on Saturday to play Lumen Christi in the annual Memorial Day DoubleHeader before facing Bronson next Tuesday in the MHSAA pre District game hosted by Quincy. Game time 5:00 pm

Orioles Lose: -

The Quincy Orioles reached the finals of the Al Glick Invitational for the 2nd year in a row and lost to a familiar opponent- state ranked Jackson Lumen Christi 11-2 The Orioles beat Jackson High School in the opening round in with an exciting 5-4 win.  Their scheduled 2nd game was not played due to a scheduling error.  

In game one Brennen Allman and Mason Graves teamed up to hold the Vikings at bay from the mound. The Vikings outhit the Orioles but the O’s made plays when needed including a fly out when Jackson had the tying and go ahead runs at bat. Allman earned the win and Graves the save. Seniors Ethan Copas and Mickey Connin lead the at the plate with 2 hits each. Jimmy Maynard added a single. 

In game 2 the Titans exploded for 8 runs over the final two innings to break open what had been a back and forth game.  Ryan Kempter and JMaynard  pitched well for the Orioles into the 6th inning. Connin again led the offense with another 2 hits (4 in the doubleheader) Grant Holroyd, Freshman, Christian Craven and Maynard also recorded hits. 

The Orioles look forward to another busy week with games at Maple Valley, Union City to round out Big Eight play and a return trip to Jackson’s to face JLC

Orioles Win: 13 - 2

The Quincy Orioles split a non league doubleheader with visiting Hillsdale on Senior Day Thursday night.  The Orioles won game 1 13-2 in just 5 innings but fell in the nightcap 8-6. The Orioles took a 6-3 lead into the 7th inning but the Hornets plated 5 runs in the inning 4 coming after  two outs.  

in Game 1 the Orioles had plenty of offense led by Mason Graves who had 2 hits and 4 RBIs. Graves was also the winning pitcher throwing 3.1 innings allowing just 2 hits and striking out 5 

Alex Barry added 2 hits and an RBI and Ethan Copas had a  2 run single and 3 RBIs in the game. The top of the order Jimmy Maynard, Ryan Kempter, and Brennen Allman scored a total of 8 runs and swiped 6 stolen bases. Parker Fraley had an RBi double. Andrew Dunn added a stolen base in game 1

In game 2 the Orioles couldn’t get the final out in the 7th inning and fell 8-6.  The loss doesn’t overshadow the tremendous pitching effort from Junior Landon Beardon. The righty came on in relief of Kempter with the bases loaded and threw 4 scoreless innings holding the Orioles lead through 6 innings. The Orioles managed just 5 hits in second game two each from Graves and Maynard. Allman had an RBI single and Copas and Grant Holroyd added RBI ground outs. 

The Orioles return to the diamond this Saturday participating in the Al Glick Invitational in Jackson.

Orioles Lose: 1 - 2

 Orioles lose Big 8 battle with Union City 2-1. 

The Orioles and Chargers battled pitch by pitch and it was the Chargers getting a 2-1 win in a good high school baseball game on Tuesday.  The second game of the scheduled DH was rained out and make up details are being worked out.  

The Orioles scored 1st when Ethan Copas who walked came around to score on a hard hit ball by Alex Barry.  The Chargers answered with a sacrifice fly to tie the score.  The Chargers got the game winning run in their half of the 6th inning.  

Brennan Allman started on the mound for the O’s and was effective for 4 innings.  Jimmy Maynard pitched the final 3 innings in relief and was equally effective.  The Orioles could not generate enough offense and had just 2 hits -singles by Ryan Kempter and Mason Graves.  Copas walked two times for the Orioles  who only had 6 base runners all game.  The Chargers had 8 hits and walked a total of 6 times. 

The Orioles are now 6-3 in league play and 12-7 overall.

Orioles Win: 4 - 2

 

Orioles win DH over Bronson. 

The Oriole Baseball team won a Big 8 DH over Bronson at Quincy on Wednesday night. 

In a tightly contested 1st game Quincy’s Brennen Allman who allowed just 3 hits and recorded 5 K’s and the Vikings Warner Wotta battled on the mound. The game was scoreless through 5 innings. In the 6th the Orioles scored 3 times. Alex Barry started the rally with a line drive single and scored on a Jimmy Maynard single.  The Vikings countered with 2 in their at bat. The Orioles added an insurance run in the 7th and Ryan Kempter pitched 2 innings to get the save and a 4-2 Oriole win. 

The Vikings out hit the Orioles 5-3. Jimmy Maynard hit 2 of the three Oriole hits. Barry had the other hit and a walk.  

In game 2 the Orioles had their hitting shoes on and pounded out 13 hits enroute to an 11-3 win.  Mason Graves pitched a complete game for the O’s. The Junior allowed 3 hits and struck out 2. 

Freshman Christian Craven in a spot start had 4 RBis Kempter added 3 hits. Seniors Ethan Copas, Grant Holroyd and Mickey Connin had multiple hits. Allman, Graves, and Maynard added singles. 

With the wins the Orioles move to 12-6 overall and 6-2 in Big 8 play.  They have a quick turn around and travel to Columbia Central on Thursday.

Orioles Lose: -

Orioles finish runners up and Oriole Invite. 

The Orioles Baseball Team hosted Comstock and Parchment in the Orioles Invite on a beautiful day at Quincy’s Baseball Field. 

The Orioles won game 1 over Comstock 8-3. Ryan Kempter and Jimmy Maynard combined to strike out 13 Colt hitters. Mason Graves came on to record the final 2 outs to earn the save.  At the plate the Orioles walked a total of 11 times and recorded 5 hits Grant Holroyd had 3 walks and Jimmy Maynard and Brennen Allman 2 walks each.  Alex Barry had the big bat getting 2 hits including a 2 run single.  Mickey Connin had a productive game with a base hit and 3 RBIs Ethan Copas and Allman added hits for the Orioles. 

In game 2 against Parchment the Orioles played a clean game but fell 5-1 to the Panthers who claimed the Invite title. The Panthers out hit the Orioles 10 -5.  Allman and Graves pitched well for the Orioles in defeat. 

The Orioles were led at the plate by Holroyd who collected 2 hits. He also played a strong DH as the Orioles catcher. Maynard, Graves, and Copas added hits. Christian Craven recorded the lone RBI. 

The Orioles get back to Big 8 with a DH at home vs Bronson on Tuesday.

Orioles Win: 2 - 0

The Oriole Varsity Baseball team traveled to BrittonDeerfield on Monday night and played 4 solid innings and holding a 2-0 lead when the rain made the pitching mound unplayable and play was suspended. Brennen Allman threw 4 complete innings allowing just one hit and striking out 6 Patriot hitters. At the plate Mason Graves slugged two hits. Grant Holroyd and Mickey Connin had doubles and Jinny Maynard added a single.  The 2nd game of the scheduled doubleheader was not played

Orioles Win: 13 - 0

Orioles Fly by Stockbridge. 

 

The Orioles  swept passed visiting Stockbridge by scores of 13-0 and 15-5 on Thursday night to move its mid season record to 8-4 overall.  

In game 1 the Orioles scored 10 runs in the 3rd inning and made a winner of Ryan Kempter who threw a 5 inning shut out at the Panthers. The Junior lefty allowed just 4 hits and fanned 6. On offense Brennen Allman had 2 hits and 3RBI. Ethan Copas had a bases loaded triple. Seniors Grant Holroyd, Mickey Connin, and Parker Fraley added hits and RBIs The Oriole Seniors collected 4 hits and 7 RBI’s in the game.  

In game 2 again the Orioles  got off to a fast start scoring 13 runs in the 1st 3 innings leading to a 5 inning 15-5 victory.  Jimmy Maynard threw 4 effective innings on the mound allowing just 4 hits and 2 earned runs. Fraley pitched a scoreless 5th inning.  

Mason Graves led the way with the bats getting 3 hits, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Maynard also scored 4 runs from his lead off spot. Kempter scored 3 times and Allman twice. Copas added 2 more RBIs. Holroyd added 2 hits including his 4th 2b of the season. Landon Beardon collected his 1st varsity hit and was steady behind the dish in game 2.  

The Orioles get a couple off days off before returning to action against Coldwater next Thursday.

Orioles Win: 4 - 3

Late heroics help Orioles gain Big 8 Conference split at Springport

 

After a frustrating 4-2 loss in game 1 of a Big 8 Conference DH at Springport and trailing 3-1 in its final at bat in game 2, the Orioles found same magic and won 4-3.  Brennen Allman and Mason Graves led off the bottom of the 7th with singles. Ethan Copas drove a rbi double on a 2 strike pitch to left center scoring Allman. After an intentional walk to Grant Holroyd who had hit a home run earlier in the game- the 1st of his career Alex Barry delivered a clutch single that scored both Graves and Copas with the tying and winning run. The late scores made a winning pitcher of Jimmy Maynard who relieved Graves in the top of the 7th and pitched a clean inning. Graves was sharp through six innings allowing just 6 hits and striking out 6 Spartan hitters.  The Orioles had 13 hits in the game but had stranded many runners until the 7th inning. Graves, Copas, Holroyd and Mickey Connin had 2 hits each while Maynard, Allman Ryan Kempter and Barry collected singles.  Barry’s hit through a drawn in infield allowed to Orioles to complete the comeback. 

In game 1 the Orioles led 2-0 in the 6th inning and faltered on defense giving up 4 unearned runs in the 6th inning and fell 4-2. Allman pitched a  tough and complete game allowing just 6 hits to go along with 6 strikeouts outs. He also paced the offense with 3 hits. Graves added 2 hits and Copas 1.  

The Oriole return to action on Thursday with a home double header against non conference opponent Stockbridge

Orioles Win: 7 - 1

The Orioles Varsity Baseball team traveled to Hudson on Friday to play the Tigers in a non conference doubleheader. The Orioles played a good first game but lost 2-0. In the nightcap the Orioles scored early and held off the Tigers by a 7-1 margin to gain the split.

In game one Mason Graves held Hudson in check from the mound pitching 6 strong innings recording 18 outs and throwing just 62 pitches. The Tigers with two outs scored two runs when the Orioles had a fielding miscue. The Orioles only struck out two times in the game but had limited traffic on the bases. Ryan Kempter led the way at the plate with 2 hits while Ethan Copas and Alex Barry added singles.

In game two the O’s got on the board with 3 first inning runs and rode the pitching arms of Jimmy Maynard and Kempter who scattered just 4 hits. Maynard threw the 1st 4 innings and earned the win – his 1st Varsity win. Kempter pitched the final 3 innings to notch the save. On offense Maynard helped the cause with an RBI double and the middle of the line up, Brennen Allman, Graves and Copas had 5 hits and 3 RBI. Barry , Kempter, and Copas recorded RBI ground outs to add extra runs. Caleb Rose recorded his 1st Varsity hit and scored a run late in the game. 
The Orioles now 5-3 play a pair of double headers next week against Springport and Stockbridge.

Orioles Win: 5 - 4

The Orioles won in dramatic fashion in game1 of its Big8 DH with Concord at Quincy on Tuesday. With the score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th Jimmy Maynard and Ryan Kempter reached base with infield singles. Maynard got to3rd base with one out while Kempter took 2nd on a fake squeeze play the Yellowjacket catcher threw ian attempt to pick Maynard off 3rd and the ball went into left field allowing Maynard to score the winning run. 
Ethan Copas opened the scoring for the Orioles with a 2 run double in the 1st inning. Kempter had 2 hits and Brennen Allman had an rbi single. Mason Graves added hit and played solid at shortstop 
Allman pitched into the 6th inning allowing just 3 hits while striking out 5 
Kempter followed Allman to the mound and stopped the Yellowjackets to earn the pitching victory. 
In game two sloppy defense in the first two innings led to 6 unearned Yellowjacket runs and the Orioles managed just 4 hits in the game and lost 6-1. Graves was solid in 4 innings from the mound and Maynard threw a clean 123 inning. Graves and Allman had 2 hits each. 
With the split the Orioles move to 3-1 in Big8 play and 4-2 overall. They will hit the road for a non conference DH vs Hudson on Friday

Orioles Win: 18 - 0

Orioles open Big8 Slate with a road sweep of Reading. 

 

The Orioles hit the road to Reading to open Big8 Conference play and came away with two impressive wins while blanking the Rangers on the day 

In game 1 the Orioles broke the game wide open scoring a 9 run 2nd inning while adding 8 runs in the 3rd inning to win 18-0. Lead off hitter Jimmy Maynard led the way with 3 hits and 4 RBI. Ethan Copas continued his hot start to the season with a 3 hit game and 2 RBI. Also chipping in at the plate were Ryan Kempter, Brennen Allman, Grant Holroyd ( a 2b and RBI ), Mason Graves ( 1b and 3 runs scored and Parker Fraley who scored 3 times. The offensive explosion was enough for Brennen Allman who pitched his way to the Big8 win. The righty was sharp allowing just 2 hits while striking out 7 Rangers.   

The Orioles got on the board 1st in game 2 and rode strong pitching performances from Graves and Kempter to an 11-0 win Graves threw into the 5th inning striking out 6 without giving up a hit.  Kempter relieved and struck out the side with the bases loaded in the 5th. Kempter threw 2 innings total and all his out came via strike outs.  The Orioles had their hitting shoes on also in game two as 4 players - Kempter (2 RBI) , Allman, Mickey Connin and Alex Barry -collected  two each each. Holroyd (2RBI) , Copas, Graves and Freshman Christian Craven added hits. craven’s single the 1st of his Varsity career chased home 2 runs which ended the game.  

If the rain stays away the Orioles 3-1 overall and 2-0 in league play will return to action on Thursday at home vs Michigan Center.

Orioles Win: 5 - 4

The Quincy Orioles Varsity Baseball team opened its 2024 season with beautiful weather hosting Hanover Horton in a competitive DH which saw both teams grab 5-4 wins in the final at bats.

In game 1 which went extra innings Sr. Ethan Copas singled home Jr. Brennen Allman for the walk off Oriole win and a pitching win for Jr. MasonGraves who relieved Allman and pitched 4.1 innings allowing just 3 hits and recording 2 strike outs. Allman led the hitting attack with 3 hits while JR. Alex Barry and Sr. Parker Fraley added two hits each. Barry’s 5th inning 2B opened a hit parade which saw the O’s record 7 hits over the final 3 innings. Jr.Jimmy Maynard, Jr. Ryan Kempter, and Sr Mickey Connin added hits. Maynard also swiped 2 bases.

In game 2 the Orioles rallied from 3 down to take a 4-3 lead into the 7th inning where the Comets pushed a-crossed 2 runs and held the Orioles scoreless in the 7th inning to record the 5-4 win. Barry again had a hot bat and led the Orioles with 2 hits including another 2b his second of the day. Kempter and Graves also had hits. Graves picked up 2 RBI. Kempter started on the mound and was followed by Fraley and Maynard 
The Orioles played a good brand of defense on the day and were led by Sr Catcher Grant Holroyd with 3 throw outs. Copas recorded 7 fly ball outs

With the season finally underway the Orioles hit the road on Tuesday at Reading to open Big 8 Conference play.
