Orioles season ends in District loss to Homer

The Orioles baseball team came up short in the MHSAA Districts to Homer falling 7-0. The Trojans pushed across two runs in the 1st inning, two in the 4th and three in the 5 and held the Orioles at bay.. The Orioles put runners on base several times but could not deliver the big hit to draw even with Homer.

Brady Mescher ended his fantastic career in the Orange and Black throwing 5 innings. He struck out 3 and walked 3 allowing 8 hits. He finished the season with a 7-4 record from the mound. Dreden Feltner finished the game holding the Trojans scoreless in his one inning of work to finish off his career with some forty innings pitched in his senior season. The combo of Mescher and Feltner carried the load for the Quincy pitching staff all season.

The Orioles managed just 5 hits in the contest. Ryan Kempter, Hunter Tinervia who closed out a successful career, Alex Barry, Jimmy Maynard and Ethan Copas reached base safely.

The Orioles finish the 2023 season with a respectful 19-12 season and a 3rd place finish in the Big 8 Conference will say goodbye to a hard working and fun group of Seniors who posted back to back winning seasons. Mescher, Tinervia and Riley Miner look to further their baseball opportunities at Glen Oaks Community College. Feltner, Brody Fillmore and Grant Wright and Ryder Schmactenberger, who crafted a role, because of a season long injury, as an assistant type coach, added valuable contributions to the Orioles club this season.

The Orioles will return 10 players in 2024 who played big roles in 2023 and gained valuable experience and will lead the Orioles into another competitive baseball season.
