Quincy Orioles took the lead late in the game in a 7-1 victory over Union City Varsity Chargers on Tuesday and earned a conference split at Union City 

The game was tied at one with the Orioles batting in the top of the sixth when Jimmy Maynard singled on a 2-1 count, scoring three runs. Maynard heroics came on a two strike count. Grant Holroyd got the Orioles on the board in the 5th inning with a clutch RBI single. The Quincy Orioles secured the victory thanks to the seven run sixth inning.  Grant Holroyd, Maynard, Riley Miner, Ryan Kempter, and Brady Mescher each had RBIs in the frame.

The highlight of the game came after the Orioles scored 7 runs in the 6th inning.  The Chargers threatened with back to back singles in their half of the 6th before Mickey Connin snagged a line drive and fired to 2nd for the second out and Riley Miner tagged out the other UC runner completing the rare triple play. 

Mescher led the Quincy Orioles to victory with a gutsy performance on the mound. The righthander lasted seven innings, allowing ten hits and one run while striking out eight to earn his 5th conference victory. He also added an RBI triple from the plate. 

The Orioles racked up seven hits Holroyd and Maynard each collected two hits to lead Quincy and Mescher added an RBI triple In the game one win. 

In game two the Orioles never found their footing on offense and fell 5-0. Union City 3 runs in the 3rd inning and added single runs in the 6th and 7th innings. 

Dreden Feltner, Brennen Allman, and Ryder Schmactenberger pitched for the Orioles.  The trio held the high powered UC line up to just 5 hits but were hampered by 8 walks and 3 costly field errors. 

Hunter Tinervia led the offense with 2 hits. Mescher and Connin added doubles and Riley Miner had a single. 

The games had a tournament type atmosphere as the two rivals went toe to toe.  The Orioles finish the 2023 Big Eight portion of their schedule with a 10-4 record.  Overall the Orioles move their record to 17-8 and are back in action on Thursday hosting Barry County Christian in a non league doubleheader.
