Orioles advance to Glick final 

 

The Quincy Oriole Baseball team traveled to Jackson on Saturday to compete in the “Al Glick” Baseball tournament and made it to the final game before losing to nemesis Jackson Lumen Christi.  The Orioles walked away with a 2nd place finish with an over all 2-1 record on the day

In game 1 the Orioles beat host Jackson High 5-1. Brady Mescher shut down the Vikings over 6 innings to earn the win.  He gave up  5 hits but struck out 7.  Dreden Feltner came on in the 7th inning to record the save. Feltner also provided the game biggest hit with a two out two strike single to score Grant Holroyd and Alex Barry. Mescher added 2 hits and Holroyd, Hunter Tinervia, Brody Fillmore, and Riley Miner, who returned from injury, added hits 

The win over Jackson propelled the Orioles to a 2nd round match up with Big 8 Conference foe Springport.  The Orioles scored 3 runs late in the contest to escape with a 4-2 win.  Feltner picked up where he left off pitching 4 complete innings giving up just 2 hits. Ryan Kempter entered the game in the 5 inning holding Springport scoreless over the final 3 innings to get the win. 

The Orioles banged out 10 hits but were sloppy on the bases limiting their scoring chances. The big hit came from Miner who hit a run scoring triple in the 5th inning. Mescher stayed hot with 3 hits and 2RBIs and Tinervia and Holroyd added 2 hits each. Kempter and Jimmy Maynard also had Oriole hits. 

In the Championship game the O’s met the state ranked Titans who scored 8 runs in the 3rd inning and blanked the Orioles 10-0 in just 5 innings.  The lone Oriole hit came from Holroyd who ended up with 4 hits on the day. Tinervia and Ryder Schmactenberger pitched for the Orioles who ran out of gas leading to 6 fielding errors and lots of traffic on the bases for the Titans. 

With the weekend action the Orioles move their season record to 14-5 and return the the diamond on Tuesday with a Big 8 DH at Bronson.
