Orioles Stop Springport in Big8 DH

The Quincy Orioles returned to the diamond after a week of cancellations and beat Springport 8-4 and 12-1 in Big8 play.

Pitching played a major role as both Sr’s BradyMescher and Dreden Feltner, who was returning to the line up from an injury, tossed complete games in leading the Orioles 

In game 1 Mescher overcome a sloppy 5 th inning where the Orioles committed 3 fielding errors and allowed the Spartans to tie the score at 4-4 Mescher righted the ship and finished with 6 strikeouts. 

The Orioles scored 4 in their half of the 6th inning highlighted by Grant Holroyd’s 2 run 2b.  Mescher shutout the Spartans in the 7th to secure the win.  Mescher and Hunter Tinervia laced 3 hits in the win and Mickey Connin added two hits and 2 RBI. Perhaps the two biggest at bats were from Brody Fillmore who drew 2 walks in the later innings to move the order along. Fillmore entered the game after an injury to Ethan Copas. Dreden Feltner also added a hit for the O’s 

In game 2 Feltner was brilliant on the mound allowing just 3 hits and striking out 12. his pitch execution was sharp as he was able to get ahead in the count then rely on off speed pitches to put away the Spartan hitters

The Orioles managed just 5 hits but took advantage of 12 Spartan walks. So. Alex Barry led the way with 3 hits and 3 RBI in earning his 1st Varsity hit and RBI. Connin and Holroyd added hits for the Orioles who raced out to a 10-0 lead after 4 innings.  Tinervia and Brennen Allman walked 3 times each and scored a total of 5 runs between them. Ryan Kempter, Mescher, Tinervia, Connin and Parker Fraley added RBIs in the game2 win. 

With the wins the Orioles move to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in Big8 play. They are off for the weekend and return nextTuesday with its last official Big8 contest with Jonesville. Game time 4:15 in Quincy
