Orioles Fly Past Reading in Big8 Doubleheader
The Quincy Orioles for a second day in a row had traffic all over the base paths and were opportunistic taking advantage of several Ranger miscues to record 17-1 and 16-0 victories.
The Orioles again pounded the strike zone and played steady defense behind Sr’s Brady Mescher and Dreden Feltner on the mound. Mescher fired a one hitter in the opener and struck out 6. Feltner had a banner day striking out 14 batters while allowing just 2 hits before being removed from the game via pitch count. Sr. Hunter Tinervia finished up with 1.1 innings of relief and recorded 3 strikeouts. In its last 5 games the Oriole pitching staff has not allowed more than 2 runs in a game.
On the offensive end Mescher had 4 hits in the DH including a triple and and double and 5 RBI and 3 stolen bases. Tinervia was in the mix with RBIs and walks while stealing 3 bases. Sr. Riley Miner scored 4 times on 2 hits while stealing 3 bases. So. Brennen Allman scored 4 times in the DH. Jr. EthanCopas had 3 hits on the day.Jr Catcher Grant Holroyd added 2 hits and 2 RBI while playing solid games at catcher. So.Ryan Kempter had 2 hits and 2 RBI. The Orioles walked 19 times in the DH and stole 13 total bases. The Rangers also committed 11 errors on the day.
The Orioles finish the week 4-0 and now have some time to practice fine tuning as the season is well underway. Next up is Big 8 foe Homer.
