Orioles stop Reading in Big 8 Doubleheader
Junior, Brady Mescher threw a 3 hit shut out to propel the Orioles to a 3-0 game 1 victory over the Rangers at blustery Barre Field on Wednesday night. He recorded a career high 13 strike outs and was efficient while limiting the Ranger bats. The Orioles were led at the plate by Sr. Karsen Maurer and So. Grant Holroyd both with 2 hits and an rbi. Mescher helped his cause with an rbi groundout. Mason Snyder Ryder Schmactenberger and Riley Miner added hits. The Orioles helped their cause by playing a clean defensive game – no errors and swiped 5 bases.
In game 2 after Reading took the lead 5-3 in the 3rd inning, the Orioles went back ahead with an 8 run 3rd inning and went on to win16-8. Maurer was the winning pitcher in relief of Schmactenberger. The sr. righty pitched 4.1 innings and recorded 7 strikeouts. He had another 2 hit game while also walking twice. Ethan Copas had a key 2 run single in the 3rd inning and finished with 2 hits and 4 Rbi. Mescher added a run scoring single and 3 Rbi. Holroyd again was running on the base paths with a hit and 3 walks. Hunter Tinervia had 3 Rbi and Riley Miner swiped 4 bases leading to 3 runs.
With the win the Orioles move their record to 5-1 and 3-1 in league play. They return to the diamond tomorrow with a non league double header at GrassLk.
