Quincy Baseball wins Big 8 Conference Opener over UC

The Orioles broke open a pitchers duel with a 8 run 4th inning on its way to a 10-2 victory over Union City in game 1 of a Big 8 Conference DH. Oriole Junior Brady Mescher was solid on the mound pitching into the 6 inning while giving up just 3 hits and striking out 9. Senior Karsen Maurer relieved Mescher and closed the door on the Chargers. Maurer fanned 4 Charger batters.

The Orioles bats were led by Grant Holroyd, Davin George, Brennen Allman, Rider Schmachtenberger, Brady Mescher, and Karsen Maurer, all knocking in runs in the 4th inning. Allman’s hit was a 2 run single which knocked UC pitcher Kyle Johnson out of the game. Allman a Freshman infielder continues to contribute at a high level for the Orioles Riley Miner and Ethan Copas also added hits for the Orioles.

The Orioles were again sure-handed on defense and didn’t commit a single error. Holroyd made the most plays with 13.

Game 2 of the DH was suspended after 3 1/2 innings with the Chargers leading 11-6. The game will be completed at a later date.
