Quincy Baseball Rolls on by Reading in Big 8 Double Header
Bradley Harper had all the right stuff on Friday for the Orioles, allowing zero runs and besting Reading by a score of 10-0 in game one of the Big Eight Conference Double Header at Quincy. Harper scattered 6 singles over 5 innings. He struck out 3 Rangers and did not walk a batter in an efficient 60 pitch outing.
Corbin Bethel led off the 1st inning for the Orioles with a 2b and scored on a Kyler Maurer single. Maurer later scored on a throwing error to put the Orioles up 2 runs after 1 inning
The Orioles added 2 unearned runs in both the2nd and 3rd innings. Harper helped his cause with an RBI 2b and Karsen Maurer also added an rbi double with a shot that hit the top of the fence in deep left center field. Kyle Rodesiler added two hits and Riley Miner swiped 3 bases to pace the Orioles.
In game 2 the Orioles raced out to an 11-0 lead and withstood a Ranger rally and went on on win 19-6. Blake Burkhart threw2.2 innings and was relieved by Lane Pearson who was credited with the win. Brady Mescher threw a scoreless inning as the relief pitching stopped the Ranger rally.
Quincy had their running shoes on as they recorded 15 stolen bases in the contest. Riley Miner added 2 more steels in game 2 for a total of 5 stolen bases in the doubleheader. The Maurer brothers accounted for 5 rbi in game 2 while Harper was at it again with another run scoring 2b. Davin George and Rodesiler add rbi singles
The Orioles defended well in both games and did not record a fielding error in either game. With the wins the Orioles finish the week winning 3 of 4 games including a non league double header spilt with Grass Lake on Thursday leaving them with an overall 3 and 4 record and 2 and 2 in Big Eight play.
