Quincy Middle School Football plays Split Squad games

The QMS Football team split their roster and traveled to both Battle Creek Central and Reading for  action on Wednesday. The Orange team fell to the Bearcats 36-0 and the Black team blanked rival Rangers 40-0.  

The Orange team was led by Preston Hochstetler, Dayton Parker, and Kolton Chapman. Coach Ethan Copas said “ The Orioles played hard to the end and the goal of getting extra reps for different players was accomplished.”

The Black team raced out to a 22-0 1st quarter lead and played inspired team defense to shut out the Rangers.  JJ Wright lead the way on offense with 2 scores and a 2 point conversation pass to Carsen Craven. Wright also added a defensive score with a 3rd quarter “pick six.” The defense got into the act again in the 3rd quarter when dback Caleb Ruddock took a Rangers pass to the house for 6 points.  Matthew Taylor also scored an Oriole touchdown.  Coach Kugler, proud of the defense, said “ The D should all get game balls.” The defense was led by Linebackers Gibson James, Luke Clancy, and Kandon Thompson and interior lineman Kolton Marquart, Maverick Abbeg and Connor Hagaman. 

The Orioles get back to work preparing for Sand Creek at home next Wednesday in scheduled 7th and 8th grade games.
