Score

BRONSON JR/SR HIGH SCHOOL: 5

The Orioles conclude the 2022 Big Eight season with a DH spilt against Bronson.

Two crazy finishes left the Orioles and Vikings to earn a split in the final Big Eight DH of the season with the spilt both teams finish 6-8 in the final standings.

Quincy won game 1 in walk off fashion. Ethan Copas drove home Brady Mescher with a sac fly in the bottom of the 7th to complete a comeback win.  Mescher threw  a solid 5 innings on the mound allowing just 3 his while recording 11 strike out.  His pitch count was up and Karsen Maurer relieved him. The Vikings dinged Maurer for 4 runs in the 6th to tie things up.  Dreden Feltner stopped the Vikings in the 7th setting the stage for Copas to drive Mescher in with the winning run.  Riley Miner had a nice day at the plate with 2 hits and 2rbi Hunter Tinervia, Grant Holroyd, and Copas also added hits in the 6-5 Oriole win.

In game 2 the Orioles took a 5-1 lead into the top  of the 5th inning after a 3 run Home run by Maurer. However the Vikings scored 8 runs in their 1/2 of the 5th as the Orioles made several mistakes in the field and on the mound.  The Vikings only had 3 hits in the inning but took advantage of 4 walks and 3 errors. The game will be remembered by a strange and debatable ending.  In the 7th inning with the O’s trailing 9-5 the Orioles put the 1st 4 batters on base to close to 9-8 with nobody out and an Oriole at 2nd.  Bronson’s coach came out of the dugout to discuss darkness and safety.  The umpires called the game final at that point.  The Orioles stranded the tying run at 2b base with no one out.  MHSAA rules determine any game that is called of darkness after an official game completion ( 5 innings ) is considered a completed game. The decision left the O’s empty with still 3 outs to go. The game ended with a score of 9-8. Miner and Maurer again had big bats for theOrioles with 2. Hits each.  Maurer’s home run was his 2nd of the season and lifted his team high lead in rbi to 24. Holroyd and Brennen Allman added 2bs

The spilt leaves the Orioles with a 12-11 record with non league games scheduled this week at Hanover Horton on Wednesday and Jackson LC on Saturday.
