The Quincy Orioles came up just short against Springport, falling 27-22 in a hard-fought contest that came down to the final inches. For the second time this season, Quincy had an opportunity near the goal line late in the game but couldn't convert the chance into a go-ahead score. Junior running back Noah Kelley delivered a historic performance, setting Quincy’s single-game records for carries (51) and rushing yards (341) while scoring three touchdowns. His 51 carries are tied for the sixth-most in Michigan high school football history. Kelley also surpassed Landon Kelley’s 2021 mark for rushing yards in a game and broke Jim Supianoski’s career rushing yards record, established from 1980-82. Defensively, JJ Wright led the Orioles with nine tackles. Kaden Cutler, Seth Van Stelle and Xander Wood each recorded a tackle for loss, while Gibson James forced a fumble to help spark the defense. Quincy also came up with a key special-teams play when James recovered an onside kick following a well-placed kick by Kale Dirschell, giving the Orioles another opportunity to get back into the game. Despite the narrow loss, Quincy continued to compete until the final whistle. The Orioles will look to bounce back next Friday when they host rival Reading on Senior Night.
