The Quincy volleyball team bounced back from a slow start Tuesday night, overcoming a first-set loss to defeat Union City in four sets, 16-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-16. The Orioles opened the match struggling to find their rhythm in the first set which allowed Union City to take the first set. Quincy settled in after the opening frame, however, responding with three consecutive set victories while becoming more consistent on both sides of the net. The Orioles took control in the second set, winning 25-14, before carrying that momentum into the third and fourth sets. Quincy continued to apply pressure offensively while limiting Union City’s opportunities, closing out both sets by identical 25-16 scores. Kora Timmons led Quincy with 10 kills and five aces, while Laura Bostic added nine kills and Ashlyn Fickle finished with eight. Fickle also led the Orioles with 11 digs, followed by JC Quimby and Bostic with nine each. Alexis Reif paced the Quincy offense with 19 assists, while Fickle added 14. Timmons recorded a team-high three blocks, with Kenzi Maynard adding two. With the victory, Quincy improves to 4-1 in Big 8 Conference play and 13-5-1 overall. They will host East Jackson next on Tuesday in their Cancer Night game with JV starting at 5:30pm and Varsity to follow.
