Orioles Earn Runner-Up Finish at Onsted Tournament

The Quincy Orioles put together a strong showing Saturday at the Onsted Tournament, finishing 4-1 on the day and bringing home a runner-up trophy. Quincy opened pool play with a pair of convincing wins over Vandercook Lake, 25-9, 25-10, and Jefferson, 25-19, 25-23. The Orioles then closed out pool play with a 25-21, 25-21 victory over Onsted to finish undefeated and advance to bracket play. The Orioles opened the bracket against Madison, battling through the opening set before finding their rhythm and responding with a strong second-set performance. Quincy ultimately advanced with with a 3rd set victory with set scores of 25-20, 13-25 and 25-13. In the championship match, the Orioles faced state-ranked Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central. Quincy battled but fell 25-14, 25-8 to finish the tournament as runner-up. Overall, the Orioles played a composed and consistent day of volleyball. Quincy continued to find ways to attack from different areas of the court and made the most of out-of-system opportunities throughout the tournament. Ashlyn Fickle led the Orioles with 30 kills, 28 digs and 14 aces, while Kora Timmons added 27 kills and seven blocks. Laura Bostic finished with 13 kills and six blocks. Defensively, JC Quimby recorded 22 digs and Kenzi Maynard added 21, while Maynard also contributed nine aces. At the net, Bostic added six blocks and Fickle recorded five. Alexis Reif led the Quincy offense with 43 assists, while Fickle added 24 assists. Reif also recorded nine aces. With the tournament finish, Quincy moves to 11-5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Orioles return to action Tuesday night on the road at Stockbridge.
