Quincy Boys Soccer battled Hillsdale in a back-and-forth match Wednesday night before the Hornets pulled away in the second half, earning a 5-2 victory over the Orioles. Quincy struck first on a penalty kick by Blaik Pearce to take an early 1-0 lead. Hillsdale answered to even the match before the Orioles regained the advantage later in the first half on a chip in goal from Evan Yeakey. The Hornets responded once again, scoring with just 18 seconds remaining before halftime to send the teams to the break tied at 2-2. The second half remained competitive, with both teams creating opportunities. Hillsdale was able to capitalize on two of its chances to take a 4-2 lead, while Quincy generated several opportunities of its own but was unable to find the back of the net. The Hornets added one more goal in the final minute to complete the 5-2 victory. Quincy finished with 13 shots, including 10 on goal, while Hillsdale recorded eight shots with three on goal. Senior goalkeeper Dane Johnson made six saves for the Orioles. The Orioles continue their season with another opportunity Saturday at the Leslie Invite followed by a rematch with Big 8 opponent Bronson Monday in Quincy.
