The Quincy Orioles hosted Big 8 opponent Stockbridge Friday night with a strong all-around performance, defeating the Panthers 67-21 on 9/11 First Responders & Military Night. The evening began with the Quincy community recognizing local first responders and military personnel before the Orioles took the field. Quincy then carried that energy into the game, building an early lead and controlling the game on both sides of the football. Junior Noah Kelley led the Quincy offense with five touchdowns while rushing for 113 yards on 12 carries. Kelley also added one of the game's biggest plays on special teams, returning a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Joe Gray accounted for four touchdowns, completing 7 of 9 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Gray also rushed for 79 yards on five carries, averaging 15.8 yards per attempt. Through the air, Noah Rufenacht recorded four receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown, while JJ Wright added three catches for 64 yards. The Quincy defense also turned in a strong performance. JJ Wright led the Orioles with 13 total tackles, while Isaiah Staggs recorded 10 tackles, including three tackles for loss and a sack. Gibson James added nine tackles. Tayte Waddell finished with six tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack, while Carson Haylett recorded eight tackles and a tackle for loss. Kaden Cutler contributed three tackles, a tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Quincy also came away with an interception from Andrew Dunn. The Orioles improved to 3-0 overall with the victory and continue conference play next week at Union City. Friday's game provided a strong night of football while also giving the Quincy community an opportunity to recognize the first responders and military personnel who were honored throughout the evening.
