The Quincy Orioles opened Big Eight Conference play with a dominant performance Thursday night, defeating East Jackson 39-0 to improve to 2-0 (1-0 Big 8) on the season. Quincy controlled the game on both sides of the football, combining an efficient offensive attack with a defense that kept East Jackson out of the end zone. The victory also produced three new school records, with Noah Rufenacht becoming Quincy’s all-time leader in career receptions and receiving yards, while Noah Kelley moved to the top of the program’s career touchdown list. Rufenacht entered the night needing one catch to take sole possession of the career receptions record. He finished with two receptions for 68 yards, giving him 81 career receptions for 1,087 yards. Both marks were previously held by Ryan Kempter, who established the records in 2024. Kelley added another milestone to his already impressive career, scoring three touchdowns on nine carries for 190 yards. His three touchdowns moved him to 31 career touchdowns, surpassing the previous record of 30 set by Jim Supianoski in 1982. Quarterback Joe Gray completed 6 of 7 passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns, while Quincy totaled 243 rushing yards. Gray and Rufenacht connected for 68 yards, with JJ Wright adding two receptions for 18 yards. Jax Sergent, Carson Haylett and Kaleb Rudduck also recorded catches. The Orioles’ defense turned in another strong performance, pitching its first shutout of the season. Quincy recorded two sacks and an interception, with Kaden Cutler returning an interception 90 yards and later recovering a fumble. Isaiah Staggs also contributed a strip sack. Xander Wood led the Orioles with six tackles, followed by Wright and Gibson James with five apiece. Staggs and Carson Haylett each recorded four tackles. Rylen Dickey, Evan Foley, Ethan Drumm, Tony Lucio and Farmer each contributed a tackle for loss. With the victory, Quincy improves to 2-0 and will return home next week for its next Big Eight Conference matchup vs Stockbridge for Military & First Responders Night Friday 9/11.
