Volleyball Advances to Gold Bracket of St. Phillip Invite

The Quincy volleyball team competed at the St. Philip Invitational on Saturday, advancing to the Gold Bracket semifinals after finishing second in pool play. The Orioles opened pool play against Centreville, dropping the first set 25-22 before responding with a 25-14 victory in the second set. Quincy followed with a two-set sweep of Climax-Scotts, winning 25-17 and 25-18. The Orioles then faced Hillsdale Academy, falling 25-23 and 25-16. The results placed Quincy second in its pool and advanced the Orioles to the Gold Bracket. In the quarterfinals, Quincy faced Big 8 opponent Concord and dropped the opening set 25-20. The Orioles responded by taking the second set and third sets 25-18 and 15-9. Quincy advanced to the semifinal round against Div 1 Kalamazoo Central. After falling 25-12 in the opening set, the Orioles battled back to take the second set 25-18 and force a third set. Quincy took an early lead in the deciding set before Kalamazoo Central finished with a 15-13 victory. Across the tournament, Ashlyn Fickle led Quincy with 44 kills, while Laura Bostic recorded 25 and Kora Timmons added 17. Fickle also recorded eight aces, with Kora Timmons adding seven and Kenzi Maynard leading the team with 10. Bostic led the Orioles with 38 digs, followed by Maynard with 34 and Timmons with 30. Alexis Reif recorded 42 assists, while Fickle added 39. The Orioles return to action Wednesday September 2nd in a Home Tri with Camden-Frontier and Benton Harbor High School.
