Quincy Caps Successful Season at MHSAA State Finals

The Quincy track and field program wrapped up an outstanding season this weekend at the MHSAA Division 3 State Finals in Kent City, with several Orioles earning All-State honors and closing their careers on some of the biggest stages in Michigan high school track and field. Senior Clayton Benson, who capped off a remarkable career with a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 14.68 seconds to earn All-State honors. Benson also placed 15th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.72 seconds. Earlier this season, he broke Quincy’s school record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.59 seconds. Senior Chayse Jensen concluded his outstanding Quincy career with a 22nd-place finish in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:03.79. Jensen will continue his academic and athletic career next season at Cleary University. Junior Noah Rufenacht delivered one of the top performances of the meet for Quincy, earning All-State honors in two events. Rufenacht finished as the Division 3 State Runner-Up in the high jump with a clearance of 6'5" and added a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 21'6.5". The boys' 4x400-meter relay team of Grant Longardner, Noah Rufenacht, Clayton Benson, and Chayse Jensen also represented Quincy at the state finals, finishing 22nd with a time of 3:35.25. On the girls side, sophomore Elizabeth Longardner continued her impressive season by placing 27th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.00 seconds and 15th in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.49. Senior Brookelyn Parker closed out one of the most decorated careers in Quincy girls track history with two outstanding performances. Parker earned All-State honors with a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (15.36) and a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (46.88). She also holds Quincy's 100m hurdle record with a time of 15.28 seconds. The girls' 4x400-meter relay team of Elizabeth Craig, Kendyl Musielewicz, Brookelyn Parker, and Elizabeth Longardner finished 26th in the state with a time of 4:25.86. The race marked the final Quincy appearance for senior Elizabeth Craig. Overall, the Orioles enjoyed a tremendous showing at the MHSAA State Finals, highlighted by multiple All-State performances, school records, and several athletes competing among Michigan’s best. The future remains bright for Quincy track and field, while the senior class leaves behind a legacy of success that will be remembered for years to come. Sound good.
