Quincy track and field will be well represented at the MHSAA State Finals as several Orioles and Lady Orioles prepare to compete against the best athletes in Michigan this weekend. Leading the way for Quincy is senior Clayton Benson, a three-time state qualifier in both hurdle events. Benson enters the state meet ranked third in Division 3 in the 110-meter hurdles and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles. He will also compete as part of Quincy’s 4x400 relay team. Noah Rufenacht returns to the state stage for the second straight season and will compete in both the high jump and long jump while also running on the 4x400 relay team. Last season as a sophomore, Rufenacht placed fourth at state in the high jump and seventh in the long jump. He enters this year’s finals looking to build on that success and compete for multiple medals once again. Chayse Jensen will make his first appearance at the state finals after qualifying in the 800-meter run, where he currently ranks 20th in Division 3. Jensen will also compete on Quincy’s 4x400 relay team alongside Grant Longardner, Rufenacht, and Benson. The relay squad enters the state meet ranked 27th overall in Division 3. On the girls side, Brookelyn Parker headlines the Lady Orioles qualifiers as a three-time state qualifier. Parker qualified in both the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles and will also run on Quincy’s 4x400 relay team. Elizabeth Longardner will compete in three events for Quincy, qualifying in the 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, and the 4x400 relay. Kendyl Musielewicz and Elizabeth Craig round out the Lady Orioles’ 4x400 relay lineup. For many of Quincy’s athletes, this will be their first experience competing at the state finals, adding even more excitement to the weekend. Coaches and athletes alike are optimistic about the opportunity ahead, with several competitors entering the meet with strong medal potential and even the possibility of challenging school records. With a talented and experienced group leading the way, Quincy heads into the state finals eager to leave everything on the track and represent the Orioles on the biggest stage of the season.
