The Quincy Lady Orioles put together an impressive day Saturday at the Al Glick Invitational, winning two games to advance to the championship before falling to a strong Columbia Central squad in the title game. Quincy opened tournament play with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Homer in a pitcher’s duel. The Lady Orioles struck first in the opening inning when Miley Poindexter delivered an RBI single to score the game’s first run. Homer answered in the third and later grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth, but Quincy responded once again. Josi Parker tied the game with a sacrifice fly before the Orioles won the game in the bottom of the 7th. Mackenzie Sattison led off with a double before back to back walks got the bases loaded and Sattison scored on a throwing error. Taylor Lewis was outstanding in the circle, tossing a complete-game two-hitter while allowing just one earned run. The left-hander worked around six walks while adding 3 strikeouts and helped Quincy secure its spot in the Al Glick Invitational Semifinals. Offensively, Parker, Mackenzie Sattison, and Poindexter each collected two hits in the win. The Orioles followed with an offensive explosion in an 11-4 victory over Onsted to advance to the championship game. Quincy scored three runs in the first inning and added five more in the second to take control early. Josi Parker led the way with four RBIs, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple in the second inning. Mackenzie Sattison added an RBI single during the rally as the Orioles built a commanding advantage. The bottom of the lineup provided a major spark as Ary’Annah Freeman, Shaylee Cope, and Cali Richards combined for four hits, four runs scored, and two RBIs. Richards and Parker each finished with two hits while Miley Poindexter worked three walks and stole two bases. Quincy totaled six stolen bases in the game. Parker also shined in the circle, striking out 12 batters (including her 100th career strikeout) over seven innings while allowing just four hits to earn the win. The Lady Orioles advanced to the championship game of the Al Glick Invitational, where they faced state-ranked Columbia Central. Quincy ran into a tough Golden Eagles squad and fell 16-0 in the title game. Columbia Central jumped ahead early and continued to add on throughout the contest behind a strong offensive performance. Despite the loss in the championship, the Lady Orioles had a successful day overall, reaching the finals of a competitive tournament and picking up two quality wins along the way.
