Orioles Drop Pair of Competitive Games at Al Glick Invitational

The Quincy Orioles traveled to Jackson on Saturday to compete in the Al Glick Invitational, falling in a pair of competitive contests against strong opponents. In the opener, Quincy battled state-ranked Columbia Central before falling 4-1. The Orioles managed just one hit on the afternoon, a single from JJ Wright. Despite the loss, Quincy received a strong pitching performance from Andrew Dunn, who allowed just two hits and two runs both, unearned. over four innings against the powerful Golden Eagles lineup. Seth VanStelle added two innings of relief work to close out the game. The Orioles tied the game in the third inning after Columbia Central committed an error, but the Eagles answered back and added insurance runs late to secure the win. In game two, Quincy dropped another hard-fought 4-1 decision to Jonesville. The Orioles collected three hits in the contest with singles from Joe Gray, Christian Craven, and Wright. Quincy’s lone run came on a sacrifice fly by Bryson Estlow that scored Wright. Joe Gray turned in an impressive effort on the mound, allowing just one earned run over four innings while striking out seven. Kale Dirschell followed with two solid innings of relief to keep the Orioles within striking distance. With the losses, Quincy moves to 12-11-2 overall and now prepares for its final Big 8 Conference game Tuesday at home against Concord. Tuesday will also serve as Senior Day for the Orioles
