The Quincy Varsity Orioles softball team traveled to Reading Tuesday evening, powering past the Rangers 25-12 in game one before the second game was suspended in the fourth inning due to lightning. Quincy exploded offensively in the opener, piling up 25 hits in a high-scoring battle. Cali Richards led the charge with five RBIs on three hits, including doubles in the fourth and eighth innings and an RBI single in the second. The Orioles took control with a four-run fourth inning to build a 7-3 advantage. Ary’Annah Freeman added an RBI single during the rally, while Miley Poindexter drew a bases-loaded walk to force in another run. After Reading battled back to tie the game in the seventh, Quincy responded with a massive 13-run eighth inning, collecting 10 hits in the frame. Taylor Lewis delivered one of the biggest blows with a two-run double as the Orioles pulled away for the win. Lewis also earned the win in the circle, striking out eight over six innings of work. Josi Parker appeared in relief for Quincy. Lewis paced the offense with four hits, while Parker, Freeman, Mackenzie Sattison, Hannah Brown, Shaylee Cope, Gabby Norris, and Poindexter all recorded multiple-hit games. Quincy also stayed aggressive on the bases, swiping six steals in the contest. Game two was suspended at the end of the fourth inning because of lightning with Reading leading 7-4. Josi Parker accounted for half of Quincy’s offense early, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Gabby Norris added an RBI single, while Miley Poindexter tripled and Ary’Annah Freeman added a hit for the Orioles. Despite the weather-shortened game, Quincy battled throughout after scoring two runs in the first inning and another two in the third. The suspended game will resume at a later date.
