The longtime rivals met Tuesday night at Hillsdale College for a Big 8 Conference doubleheader, and Quincy’s bats came alive as the Orioles rolled to 24-2 and 13-3 victories over Reading. In game one, Quincy pounded out 16 hits and erupted offensively early to take control. The Orioles scored eight runs in the second inning, six more in the third, and added another eight-run frame in the fourth. The middle of the lineup led the charge as JJ Wright and Bryson Estlow each collected three hits. Estlow finished with a double, a triple, and three RBIs, while Wright added a double and drove in two runs. Cobee Stevens helped break the game open with a bases-clearing triple and also earned the win on the mound, allowing just two hits over three innings while striking out two. Matthew Taylor added two hits, while Seth VanStelle and Ethan Drumm each contributed RBI hits. Kale Dirschell, Joe Gray, Luke Clancy, and Caden Norris also recorded hits, with Clancy and Norris picking up the first varsity hits of their careers. Quincy exchange student Sani Ullah also delivered one of the most memorable at-bats of the night, battling through nine pitches before drawing a walk.Caleb Wendorf tossed a scoreless inning in relief to close out the opener. The Orioles carried the momentum into game two, breaking open a close contest with five-run innings in both the third and fourth on their way to a 13-3 victory. Wright stayed hot at the plate with three more hits, including a bunt single, while Seth VanStelle continued his strong night with three hits of his own. Estlow added another triple and drove in two runs, and Ethan Drumm delivered a huge performance with two hits and four RBIs. Cobee Stevens and Christian Craven each added hits, while Andrew Dunn chipped in with a sacrifice fly. Wright was dominant on the mound in game two, striking out seven over four innings of work. Matthew Taylor came on in relief, allowing just one hit while recording a strikeout. With the sweep, Quincy improved to 6-5-1 in Big 8 Conference play and 12-9 overall. The Orioles now turn their attention to the Al Glick Tournament in Jackson this weekend.
