Quincy Track Has Good Showing at Shamrock Invite

The Quincy track and field teams continued their strong spring season as several standout performances at Friday’s 16 team invitational at Berrien Springs, competing against schools from Division 1 through Division 4 across West Michigan. The Quincy girls finished seventh overall with 45.5 points, while the boys tied for eighth with 30 points in a highly competitive field. Junior Noah Rufenacht highlighted the boys performances with a pair of outstanding finishes in the jumping events. Rufenacht won the high jump by clearing 6-foot-4 and added a second-place finish in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 21’ 5.5. His jump also earned state meet qualification. Senior Brookelyn Parker led the Quincy girls with a championship effort in the 300-meter hurdles, winning the event in a season-best time of 46.55. Parker also placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.16. Sophomore Ashlyn Fickle added another event title for Quincy by winning the girls high jump after clearing 5’0”. Sophomore Elizabeth Longardner had a strong all-around meet, placing fourth in the 200-meter dash in 27.1 while also taking third in the 400-meter run with a personal-best time of 1:00.66. Quincy’s relay teams also contributed valuable points. The girls 4x200 relay team of senior Elizabeth Craig, senior Brookelyn Parker, junior Kali Kugler, and sophomore Elizabeth Longardner finished fourth in 1:52.87. The girls 4x400 relay team of Craig, Parker, sophomore Brooklyn Hayes, and Longardner placed fifth with a time of 4:23.92. On the boys side, the 4x800 relay team of sophomore Grant Longardner, sophomore Carter Feltner, junior Coy Wood, and senior Chayse Jensen earned a fifth-place finish in 8:42.93. Quincy’s throwers added important team depth throughout the meet. Junior Isaiah Staggs placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 121’ 22.5” In the boys shot put, senior Lincoln Sims finished seventh with a mark of 44’ 1” while sophomore Tayte Waddell took eighth at 43’9” For the girls, sophomore Mayson VanLue tied for 11th in the shot put with a throw of 24’ 8” and later added a ninth-place finish in the discus at 71’ 4.25. Sophomore McKya Connin also tied for 11th in the shot put at 24’ 8”. Facing a large and talented field from across the State, Quincy athletes continued to show growth and competitiveness heading into the final stretch of the season.
