Quincy hosted its Oriole Classic Invitational on Saturday morning, welcoming Olivet, Sturgis and Constantine for a competitive day of soccer. The Orioles opened the tournament in strong fashion with a convincing 5-1 victory over Constantine. Quincy’s offense came out firing, led by Laura Bostic, who delivered a four game. Kenzie Maynard added another goal to round out the scoring, while Elizabeth Woodward and Claire Carpenter each contributed an assist to help pace the attack. The win advanced Quincy to the championship match against a very talented Sturgis squad. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Orioles found themselves trailing 3-0 at halftime after a few tough breaks and Sturgis capitalizing on their opportunities. Quincy continued to battle throughout the second half, but Sturgis maintained control and secured a 6-0 win. Defensively, Quincy was anchored by goalkeeper Olivia Davenport, who recorded an impressive 11 saves while facing a relentless Sturgis attack. The Orioles showed resilience and determination throughout the tournament, finishing as runners-up against strong competition at this year’s Oriole Classic. The Orioles return back to action Monday at Springport in a Big 8 contest where they look to keep their Big 8 unbeaten streak alive.
