Quincy Baseball hosted the Quincy Classic on a blustery Saturday, welcoming Dundee, Constantine, and Marcellus to town for a full day of competition. The Orioles opened the day with a hard-fought battle against Dundee, hanging tough in a 4-4 game into the sixth inning before the Vikings broke things open with an eight-run frame to pull away for a 12-4 win. Quincy showed resilience early, matching Dundee inning for inning through the middle stages. Christian Craven and Seth VanStelle led the Orioles at the plate with two hits apiece, while Bryson Estlow and Matthew Taylor also contributed offensively with a hit a piece. Ethan Drumm added an RBI in the effort. On the mound, Andrew Dunn provided a steady presence in relief, tossing three effective innings to keep Quincy within striking distance. In the consolation game, the Orioles were again competitive but came up short in a 3-1 loss to Constantine. Quincy outhit the Falcons 4-3, but couldn’t capitalize in key moments. Cobee Stevens delivered a strong outing on the mound, throwing five innings while allowing just two hits and striking out four. The pitching staff matched Constantine throughout, but timely hits proved to be the difference. Craven added another 2 hit performance in Game two to finish with four hits on the day and driving in Quincy’s lone run against the Falcons. JJ Wright and Dunn each added a hit as well. Despite the results, the Orioles showed flashes on both sides of the ball, particularly with consistent pitching performances and solid defensive play throughout the day. Quincy will look to bounce back quickly as they return to action Tuesday with a road trip to Maple Valley.
