Quincy Orioles Sweep Homer in Dominant Fashion

The Quincy Orioles bounced back from a tough loss on Wednesday with an impressive doubleheader sweep over the Homer Trojans, winning 13-0 and 10-0. In Game 1, Quincy’s pitching set the tone early. Joe Gray was outstanding on the mound, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three. Caleb Wendorf closed things out with a scoreless inning in relief. Offensively, the Orioles erupted for 15 hits. Freshman Seth VanStelle led the charge with three hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Kale Dirschell delivered a big performance with two doubles and four RBIs. Bryson Estlow, Christian Craven, Matthew Taylor, and JJ Wright all added multiple hits as Quincy also swiped seven bases in the win. Game 2 saw more of the same dominance. Matthew Taylor earned his first varsity win, throwing four scoreless innings, while Dirschell finished off the shutout with two innings of relief. VanStelle stayed hot at the plate, collecting three more hits to finish the day with six. Taylor, Wright, and Dirschell each added two hits, with Dirschell capping off a huge day with six RBIs. Estlow contributed two RBIs, while Craven, Andrew Dunn, Gray, and Ethan Drumm also recorded hits. Quincy continued to pressure on the bases, stealing eight more bags, led by Wright and Taylor with two each. The Orioles finish the week at 2-2 (7-5 overall) and carry momentum into Tuesday’s Big 8 Conference doubleheader against Union City.
