The Quincy Orioles dropped a pair of Big 8 Conference games to Bronson, falling 6-3 in Tuesday’s weather-shortened opener and 6-5 in Wednesday’s resumed matchup. In Game 1, Quincy fell behind 6-0 before responding with three runs in the fifth inning. Rain forced the game to be shortened to six innings, ending the Orioles’ comeback bid. Cobee Stevens started on the mound, with Andrew Dunn providing a strong relief effort, tossing two scoreless innings to help Quincy cut into the deficit. Matthew Taylor led the offense with two hits, while JJ Wright added an RBI single and Kale Dirschell contributed a hit. In the resumed game, Quincy appeared in control before Bronson rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to steal a 6-5 victory. JJ Wright turned in a strong all-around performance, pitching 5.1 innings with six strikeouts while allowing just two earned runs. He also led the offense with three hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs. Seth VanStelle added three hits, including an extra-base hit, while Bryson Estlow collected two hits and Ethan Drumm drove in a run. With the losses, Quincy moves to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in Big 8 play. The Orioles return to action Thursday (4/23) with a road trip to Homer in a non-conference Double Header starting at 4pm.
