The Quincy Orioles baseball team picked up a hard-fought 12-9 win in nine innings Thursday night at Addison in non-league action. Game 2 of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to weather. Quincy’s offense delivered a strong performance, totaling 16 hits on the night. The biggest swing came in the top of the ninth inning when JJ Wright delivered a clutch two-out, bases-clearing double to score Joe Gray and Andrew Dunn, giving the Orioles the lead for good. Wright led the offense with four hits, including two doubles, and three RBIs. The middle of the lineup also played a key role, as Bryson Estlow, Cobee Stevens, Christian Craven, and Ethan Drumm each recorded two hits. Kale Dirschell added two hits, including his third double of the season, while Gray reached base multiple times with a hit and two walks. Seth Van Stelle also contributed with an RBI double. On the mound, Quincy’s pitching staff combined for 16 strikeouts, using seven different pitchers in preparation for upcoming conference play. Cobee Stevens worked into the later innings before Wright took over and earned his first varsity win. Craven closed out the game to record the save. Van Stelle, Gray, Dunn, and Dirschell also contributed innings, helping limit Addison despite a few defensive miscues. Quincy returns to action Friday with a Big 8 Conference doubleheader at Springport.
