Orioles Open Outdoor Season with Strong Showing at Olivet Quad The Quincy Oriole track and field teams kicked off their outdoor season Tuesday with a trip to Olivet, competing in a quad meet against Olivet, Maple Valley, and Morrice. Both the boys and girls teams turned in strong opening performances, each earning two wins on the night with victories over Maple Valley and Morrice, while coming up just short against host Olivet. The Quincy boys defeated Maple Valley (114–21) and Morrice (112–24), but fell to Olivet (80–57). The meet provided a solid first test of the season, as the Orioles showed strength across multiple events while shaking off early-season rust. Noah Rufenacht led the way with first-place finishes in both the long jump and high jump, while also placing third in the 200-meter dash. Clayton Benson added a win in the 110-meter hurdles and a runner-up finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Hunter Walker claimed first in the 3200-meter run, and Chayse Jenson turned in a strong distance showing with second-place finishes in the 800, 1600, and 3200. Quincy also saw depth across the field events, with strong finishes in the shot put from Lincoln Sims, Waddell, Minor, and Isaiah Staggs, while Staggs added a third-place finish in the discus. In the pole vault, Minor and Preston secured second- and third-place finishes, and all relay teams contributed with runner-up performances. The Orioles also got a boost from their freshman class, with several athletes recording personal bests in their first varsity outdoor meet. On the girls side, Quincy posted wins over Maple Valley (82–52) and Morrice (84–49), while dropping a competitive meet to Olivet (87–48). Addison Hasten paced the Lady Orioles with victories in both the shot put and discus. Ashlyn Fickle cleared her way to a win in the high jump, while Piper Craig took first in the pole vault. Kendyl Musielewicz added a win in the 800-meter run. Additional strong performances came from Brookelyn Parker, who placed second in both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles, and Elizabeth Longardner, who finished third in the 200 and 400. Quincy returns to action Saturday at the Branch County Equalizer Invitational in Coldwater.
