The Quincy girls soccer team battled until the final whistle Thursday night but came up just short in a 5-4 loss to Coldwater, moving to 1-1 on the season. Coldwater got off to a fast start, scoring twice in the opening 12 minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. Quincy responded when Laura Bostic found the back of the net to cut the deficit and spark the offense. Despite the momentum shift, the Cardinals carried a 4-1 advantage into halftime. The Orioles came out strong in the second half, as Kenzi Maynard scored off an assist from Bostic to make it 4-2. Coldwater answered to push its lead to 5-2, but Quincy continued to fight. Bostic led the late surge, finishing with four goals on the night. She completed a hat trick and added a fourth goal one coming off an assist from defender Ciaira Paul to pull Quincy within one at 5-4. The Orioles applied pressure down the stretch but were unable to find the equalizer. In goal, Olivia Davenport recorded 12 saves, keeping Quincy within striking distance throughout the match. Quincy will look to bounce back on Monday when it hosts Calhoun Christian.
