The Quincy Orioles baseball team opened the 2026 season with a hard-fought 10-7 loss to Onsted at home. Weather played a factor throughout the evening, allowing just enough of a break for Game 1 of the scheduled doubleheader to be completed before Game 2 was ultimately washed out. Onsted came out strong, building a 7-0 lead early. The Orioles responded in a big way in the bottom of the fourth inning, erupting for seven runs to even the score at 7-7 heading into the fifth. Despite the momentum shift, the Wildcats plated additional runs in the fifth and sixth innings and held off Quincy’s late push. Onsted finished with nine hits and capitalized on nine stolen bases and three Oriole errors. Cobee Stevens led a group of four Quincy pitchers, striking out three while allowing three hits and throwing 25 of his 37 pitches for strikes. Matthew Taylor, Seth Van Stelle, and Joe Gray also saw time on the mound, combining to keep the Orioles within striking distance while recording key strikeouts. Offensively, Quincy recorded four hits-all first varsity career hits. Freshmen JJ Wright and Kale Dirschell each delivered run-scoring doubles, while sophomore Joe Gray added a two-run single during the Orioles’ fourth-inning rally. Stevens also contributed with an RBI single. Andrew Dunn, Bryson Estlow, and Ethan Drumm each reached base multiple times via walks, helping generate offensive opportunities. Quincy will look to bounce back on Thursday as they host Hillsdale in a doubleheader.
